SINGAPORE: Local sprinter Shanti Pereira has broken her own national record in the women's 200m, completing her run in a time of 23.82s to better her previous record of 23.99s.
She posted her record timing during the heats on Wednesday morning (Jun 10). Pereira also finished second in her heat, behind Kayla Anise Richardson of the Philippines who finished with a time of 23.67s. Both of them qualified for the final on Wednesday evening, which is expected to take place at 6.35pm.
Her time puts her in good stead of winning another medal, after she picked up a bronze in the women's 100m on Tuesday night - Singapore's first women’s sprint medal at the Games since 1973.
Pereira's compatriot, Kugapriya Chandran, also qualified for the finals and set a new personal best with a timing of 24.94s.
